LMC to Conduct Stricter Checks After Pet License Revenue Drops

Lucknow: Following a drop in revenue from pet licenses, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) is considering restarting the license checking drive in March. So far, the LMC has collected roughly INR 40 lakh from pet license registrations and fines, which is lower than last year’s revenue.

According to an LMC official Abhinav Verma, approximately 4,768 pet licenses have been issued so far in 2024-25, significantly lower than the 5,600 registrations in 2023-24, which generated INR 48 lakh. “If pet owners utilize the online registration process, we could see at least 1,000 more registrations by month-end, helping increase revenue,” Verma said.

The LMC issued around 8,200 pet licenses in 2022-23, which helped generate a significant amount of revenue. However, pet shop owners claim to observe a steady decline in pet sales, which could impact pet registrations.

As of now, the LMC has put its weekly license checking drive on hold. But, if registration numbers and revenue do not improve, the process could be restarted by March. The drive ensures that pet parents in Lucknow are following the rules and regulations, prevents unregistered pet ownership, and aids in record-keeping purposes.
