Greater Noida Pet Registration App Non-functional 5 Months After Launch

Noida: The Greater Noida Pet registration app remains defunct 5 months after its launch. Initially proposed to streamline pet vaccination and pet registration, the application was supposed to register pet cats and dogs under Noida’s new pet policy.

With a non-functional registration application, over 500 applications under the policy remain pending. According to officials, only 50 applications have been verified thus far, and registration certificates have been issued to them.

Additional CEO Sreelakshmy VS noted these challenges, stating, "The app is facing some early hurdles that have slowed its progress. However, we are actively working to resolve these issues, and all pending applications will soon be verified. Once done, registration certificates will be issued."

According to sources, the delays come from the verification process, where staff has to confirm various details like submitted documents, anti-rabies vaccination certificates, dog breeds, and owner photos before issuing certificates.

Officials did consider issuing certificates after a physical examination at the homes of owners. However, the manpower required for such an endeavour meant that officials went with a document-based verification system. With tensions flaring between pet owners and non-pet owners in apartment complexes over concern for dog bites, the registration process must be sped up instead of slowing down.

The app was initially launched in 2024, with the authorities imposing an INR 2,000 fine on pet parents who missed the registration deadline. However, the authorities have not imposed this fine, largely thanks to the sluggish pace of the registration process.

The registration process is available through the Mitra App and is currently free. Under the revised pet policy approved in June 2024 that is currently in place, pet owners must register their pets annually by submitting a valid vaccination or sterilization certificate for verification. There are no registration fees that pet parents need to pay, as the annual registration fee of Rs 500 was removed in the revised pet policy, making the process available year-round.
