Tiruchi Corporation Will Make Pet Licenses Mandatory, Online Registration System Launching in April
Tiruchi: The Tiruchi Corporation has begun development of an online pet animal registration system for the public to use. The platform will simplify the registration process and help the public obtain licenses for their pet dogs.
After receiving complaints about pet owners abandoning their pets, the civic body will soon make pet licenses mandatory for dogs in the city. Pet parents will be charged INR 100 as one-time registration fees, and they must renew their registration token with the corporation yearly.
To register their pet dog, pet parents must provide details of their dog, such as their name, vaccination date, and illnesses (if any), and upload a photo of the dog to the portal. Owners will receive a payment link once these details are filled in; once the payment is made, owners can download the license (valid for one year).
“Website designing is under way and will be launched in April. The uploaded details will be linked with the animal birth control (ABC) centres in the city and a veterinary team will be engaged to carry out verification to check the condition of the dog, ascertain if an anti-rabies vaccine is administered to pet dogs and so on,” said M. Vijay Chandran, City Health Officer.
According to a recent survey conducted by the corporation, there are roughly 43,767 community dogs in the city. The Tiruchi Corporation instructed four ABC centres at Ambedkar Nagar, Konakkarai, J.J. Nagar, and Ariyamangalam, to control the population of stray dogs.
Some 22,462 street dogs were sterilised between October 2022 and January 2025; the stray dogs were given anti-rabies vaccinations at the designated centres. After a period of seven days, they were returned to their original spaces.
