Pets In Agra Must Be Registered or Face Confiscation by Municipal Corporation
Agra: Pets in Agra must now be registered with the Municipal Corporation or face consequences. The Agra Municipal Corporation passed the Permission Control and Regulation By-Law 2022, which concerns the registration and ownership of pets in Agra.
The By-Laws cover commonly kept house pets like dogs, cats, and rabbits. Pets must be registered with the Municipal Corporation, with a fine being imposed on those who fail to register. On top of this, such pets will be confiscated by the Municipal Corporation and a separate fine will have to be paid.
According to the rules, citizens of Agra must register their pets with the Municipal Corporation within 15 days. Pets cannot be left in the open in spaces like streets or parks. Pets must not cause inconvenience or trouble for the neighbours. The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act must be followed, and animals must live in clean and well-defined spaces.
Pets cannot be kept for commercial purposes. In case of sale or demise of the animal, the Municipal Corporation must be informed within 15 days, with the disposal of the mortal remains being the pet parent’s responsibility.
To apply for and register your pet with the Municipal Corporation, you will need an application form. Your pet’s age, gender, colour, breed, and vaccination information must be entered in the application. The registration fees are INR 100 for Indian dog breeds, INR 500 for foreign breeds, and INR 100 for cats, rabbits, and other small pets.
Failure to register one’s pet will lead to fines and penalties. The fines are INR 2500 for Indian dog breeds, cats, rabbits, and other small pets, INR 5000 for foreign breeds, and an additional INR 100 per day for the confiscation of the animal. A late fee of INR 5 per day will also be charged if pet parents apply for renewal after March 31.
