Adityapur Municipal Corporation Implements Pet Care Measures

Jamshedpur: The Adityapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) has implemented a number of measures to ensure pets and street animals receive the proper care they deserve. 

The municipal body has appointed a veterinarian and started running routine inspections of the streets to find animals that need care or help. 

On Wednesday, the civic officials led by city manager Debashish Pradhan rescued an injured donkey which was lying on the footpath at Sher e Punjab Chowk in Adityapur. "An unidentified four-wheeler ran over the animal, injuring it seriously. On receiving the alert, our team rushed to the site immediately and rescued the donkey," said Pradhan, who is the in-charge of the veterinary cell of the AMC.

The city manager said that the residents under AMC’s jurisdiction can now approach the AMC for veterinary care. "The municipality will now strictly enforce the provisions of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and will take legal action against the offenders," said Pradhan.

He also said the AMC would open a clinic at the corporation building soon, wherein people and their pets can visit for health check-ups on weekdays. Also, the AMC is also set to launch a castration drive to neuter and control the breeding of street and stray dogs. "Previously, the AMC used to get it (castration) done by a private agency but now our team will do it," Pradhan said.

Furthermore, a census of street animals, cattle, and domesticated pets will be conducted, with each animal assigned a unique digital identity. The data will be securely stored in a digital database to enable real-time tracking. 

The Adityapur Municipal Corporation is also considering the launch of a dedicated helpline, allowing citizens to report animal-related emergencies and seek timely assistance."
