Pet Parents to be Fined if Pets Found Defecating in Public Spaces
Telangana: Dogs are a popular choice of pet in India. Since dogs have a routine, they usually need to go outside in the morning and evening to relieve themselves. However, such habits can make surroundings and public spaces unhygienic quickly.
However, this practice is about to change soon. Now, if a pet dog is found defecating outside, the owners be fined. To this extent, the provisions in the Municipal Act will be strictly implemented in all the urban and local bodies of the state.
Commissioner and Director of Municipal Department Sridevi has issued orders to the commissioners of all municipalities in the state except GHMC. Clear orders were also issued to the Collectors of the respective districts as well.
Currently, this provision is already in force under Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The authorities identified dog poop as a reason for the unsanitary surroundings in multiple cities. The government notes that the stray dogs are an issue; however, pet dogs and their owners also must be careful to not defecate in public spaces.
To this end, the municipal department has issued the latest order. According to these orders, if a pet dog defecates in the street, the municipal authorities may impose a fine of up to Rs.1000 on its owner. this fine varies from municipality to municipality.
If an owner allows their pet dog to defecate on the street, the owners must clean and dispose of it to maintain public hygiene. If they fail to do so, the municipal authorities may fine them up to INR 1000. Municipal authorities are urging dog owners to be careful and mindful of these guidelines, public spaces, and responsibility as a pet parent.
