24 Jan Srinagar: Municipal Corporation Instructs Citizens to Register Pets
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has instructed pet owners, specifically those people with dogs as pets, to register their pets in the space of the next 30 days or action will be taken.
Owners must register their pets with the Municipal Corporation, in compliance with the Jammu & Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act. 2000 and Animal Birth Control (Dog) Rules 2001. Failing to do so, they will be punished accordingly. A public notice detailing the same has since been issued by the Office of Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
The notice states: “All the pet dog owners residing within the SMC limits are required to get their pet dogs registered within 30 days of the publication of this notice with the Srinagar Municipal Corporation in accordance with the Jammu & Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act. 2000 and Animal Birth Control (Dog) Rules 2001.”
The notice also details instructions on how a pet owner can do this, which is by heading online to www.smcsrinagarin, and paying the registration fee, which is Rs. 500/- for first time registration. A subsequent Rs. 300/- per year will be required for the renewal of this registration. The notice reads, “Following documents are required to be uploaded on the online portal: 1) Photograph of pet dog. 2) ID and Address proof of applicant 3) Anti Rabies Vaccination Certificate duly stamped and signed by Registered Veterinary Doctor (Download template from www.smcsrinagarin)”. The notice also instructs owners to get their dogs neutered/spayed and vaccinated against Rabies.
Pet owners who are found with dogs not registered with the Srinagar Municipal Corporation will be booked and fined up to Rs. 5,000/-, and may be impounded until further notice.
