Ludhiana: In a welcome announcement for all pet parents residing in and around the area, as the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (LMC) is gearing up to open the city’s first ever pet park. After a hiatus of two years due to various formalities and the tendering process, the development of the park is set to begin in the coming days.

Officials stated the contractor for the project is now finalized and construction of the first-of-its-kind park in North India will commence shortly. If the project is met with a positive reception, the officials will come up with similar parks in other areas as well. Pet parents and lovers have been requesting the authorities for such a park for a while now, as dogs have been prohibited from public parks for the longest time.

The civic officials are said to have proposed the development of such space back in 2021, with a private firm said to have been hired for the process. But construction remained halted as the official responsible had left their post.

Former Congress councillor Hari Singh Brar has aided in selecting a site to set up the park in BRS Nagar, with officials now stating the project will take roughly a month to complete. The park will include a play area, a gym for dogs, pet registration & vaccination counters, seating arrangements, and public restrooms.

Senior veterinary officer Dr Harbans Singh Dhalla said, “We have issued a letter of acceptance to the private contractor and in the coming week, an agreement will be signed, following which the work will begin”.

The officials continue to encourage pet owners to register their pets in the meantime, since numerous pet parents didn’t do so during the registration drive conducted by the MC.
