  • No food or fluids can be given to the pet onboard the plane.
  • Pets shall not be placed on seats intended for clients for any reason whatsoever, even if those seats are empty.

  • If necessary, cleaning onboard the aircraft due to the pet in the cabin will be the responsibility of the passenger.
  • Items like blankets and pillows, are exclusively for passenger use.
  • In case of emergency, oxygen cannot be supplied to a pet.
  • If a nearby passenger is allergic to the pet, another seat may be assigned. If there are no other seats available, the flight of the passenger who travels with the pet will be changed, without any additional charge or penalties. No additional compensation will be provided as a result of this change.
  • The pet carrier in the cabin must always be placed under the seat, horizontally and opposite the passenger.
  • Unaccompanied minors cannot fly with a pet in the cabin.
  • One pet may be carried onboard per passenger, emotional-support animals (ESAN) and service animals included—i.e., a client may NOT transport 1 service pet + 1 pet in cabin or 1 ESAN + 1 pet in cabin or 1 ESAN + 1 service pet.
  • The pet service in cabin is only applicable to flights operated by Aeromexico. If you’re connecting with another airline, you must comply with their check-in requirements for your pet. Please take into account that the time you have for your connection must also include your pet check-in.

Checked in Pet (AVIH)

This service transports your pet in the cargo hold of the aircraft, alongside your baggage.

Pets will be accepted on board on the following conditions:

  • Only dogs, cats, and birds will be admitted. Any other animals such as rodents, fish, reptiles, etc., must be checked in through Aeromexico Cargo.
  • The animal must be at least 8 weeks old.
  • The maximum weight allowed for documented pets is 45 kg including the cage or carrier. For pets that weigh more than what is established, they will be transported through Aeroméxico Cargo..
  • You must be at check-in 2 hours prior to the departure of the flight with the animal.
  • The transportation of checked pets in the baggage area is not included in your baggage allowance. It will be charged based on the cost in force.
  • When checking in, we’ll be making sure the carrier meets certain requirements. These include the size of the carrier, its build quality, locking mechanism, and if it is structurally damaged in any way. If the carrier doesn’t meet our standards, it will not be allowed to flyin order to safeguard both the pet and our associates. The corresponding charges will be applied if the fare allows for changes.
  • For the safety of your pet and our associates, we recommend you to use a reinforced cage that meets the specific international requirements (you can consult the requirement of the IATA containers at Click Here
  • If when you check-in or before boarding in the load compartment your pet shows aggressive or nervous behaviors, with abrupt movements, if he chews or scratches excessively, for its own safety it will not be allowed to travel.

The pet crate/carrier your pet will travel in also has to meet a few requirements. Here are a few ways of identifying and selecting a strong, IATA-approved pet crate.

  • They are manufactured with plastic materials, synthetic or welded mesh, and are resistant to bites or scratches.
  • They have only one door made of metal, heavy wire mesh or any other reinforced material. The door has a secure lock so that it cannot be opened accidentally.
  • They have adequate ventilation, but with sufficiently narrow openings so that the nose, legs, or tail of your pet cannot stick out from the cage and your pet does not get hurt.
  • They have leak-proof floors which prevents urine or feces from leaking to the exterior.

Restrictions and Conditions to Abide by:

  • The pet must travel on the same flight as its owner.
  • Through your entire flight and transfers, your pet cannot leave its cage.
  • Pets checked in as baggage have some restrictions when traveling onboard our Embraer 190. If this is your case, you will receive further information at our check-in counters.
  • During your pet transportation, only one balanced feed serving will be allowed for your flight-arrival day.
  • Take into account the temperatures and/or forecasts surrounding the origin, transit, and destination airports. If the temperature is higher than 30°C and lower than 7°C, we will not accept your pet as checked-in luggage. We follow these measures to protect the health of your pet. In case they are not admitted in the flight, we will reassign you in the next flight available and it will be subject to change.
  • One pet may be carried onboard per passenger, emotional-support animals (ESAN) and service animals included—i.e., a client may NOT transport 1 service pet + 1 pet in cabin or 1 ESAN + 1 pet in cabin or 1 ESAN + 1 service pet.
  • The checked-in pet service is only applicable to flights operated by Aeromexico. If you take a flight in connection with another airline company, you must find out the check-in requirements for your pet. Take into account that the time you have for your connection must also include your pet check-in as well.

Pet Crate/Carrier Requirements

  • Only one pet allowed in carrier
  • As part of the security measures for your pet during its transportation, you must place a lock and assure it with seals in the upper and lower part of the cage door to prevent it from opening during its handling.
  • Take into account that the size must be proportional to the size and weight of your pet.
  • It’s important that the cage or carrier is approved for air transportation.
  • Beds and/or similar materials that accompany your pet during transportation are not allowed.
